And the good news just keeps on coming!

I managed to get my hands on a new phone as well!

And it’s supposed to be a smartphone. Although not extremely smart in my books, since it doesn’t seem to be able to work with WiFi. But considering the price I paid for it, being naught/nothing/zero/null/zilch, this should be quite a good deal.

Its a Nokia N73 (the regular one, not the “Music edition”). And here it is:

Nokia N73
The best things about it (for me) are:
  • Extensive calendar possibilities, including being able to sync it with my calendar on my computer. This fits nicely with my everlasting ‘I-need-to-get-organized’-intentions.
  • Bluetooth. Amongst others to sync my calendar (if and when I finally receive my laptop). With some phones, it’s also possible to turn it into some kind of a remote control, so maybe this could be possible with the N73 too.
  • The camera: It’s definitely not a full blown digital camera, but with 3.2 megapixels it should at least be more than good enough for some daytime snapshots. From what I’ve seen, the ‘night shots’ look pretty much awful though.
  • The music player: If this doesn’t hog too much of the battery time, it could replace my craptastic iDream USB player. I do fear this is going to consume a little bit too much though. But I’ll have to wait and see.
The downsides (as far as I know):
  • The OS: Nokia’s smartphones usually ship with the Symbian OS on it. And well, frankly, it’s kind of flawed. From what I’ve been reading, it ‘hangs’ quite a lot for very short (but irritating) periods of time.
  • The fact that getting it to behave nicely with a Linux powered computer seems to require some tinkering. The bluetooth aspect in particular. I really hope this doesn’t pose too much of a problem. Because I’m not going dualboot just for syncing my calendar. I’ll remain ‘forever unorganized’ then.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with it. Let’s hope it remains that way.
